ScienceDaily reported on 22 June 2026 that University of Calgary researchers are studying whether high doses of vitamin B3, also known as niacin, can improve outcomes when added to standard glioblastoma treatment.
Glioblastoma remains one of the most aggressive adult brain cancers. Standard care typically includes surgery, radiotherapy and chemotherapy, yet recurrence is common and survival gains have been difficult to sustain.
The Calgary program grew from laboratory work suggesting niacin could restore weakened immune-cell function and help those cells attack tumor cells. The human trial is designed to identify the highest safe dose and test controlled-release niacin with chemotherapy and radiotherapy.
