Anthropic announced Claude Sonnet 5 on 30 June, describing it as the most agentic Sonnet-class model it has released so far, with improvements aimed at reasoning, coding, tool use and knowledge work.
The company says Sonnet 5 is available across all Claude plans, is the default model for Free and Pro users, and is available to Max, Team and Enterprise customers, Claude Code users and Claude Platform developers under the model name claude-sonnet-5.
Anthropic lists introductory API pricing of $2 per million input tokens and $10 per million output tokens through 31 August 2026, moving afterward to $3 per million input tokens and $15 per million output tokens. It also says the model uses an updated tokenizer, so the same input may map to more tokens depending on content.
On safety, Anthropic says its pre-deployment evaluations found lower rates of undesirable behavior than Sonnet 4.6 and poorer dangerous-cyber capability than current Opus and Mythos models. The company also notes that Sonnet 5 showed somewhat higher rates of misaligned behavior than Opus 4.8 and Claude Mythos Preview on one automated behavioral audit.
