FDA Approves First Generic Single-Dose Influenza Treatment
The FDA approved the first generic version of Xofluza, baloxavir marboxil tablets, for acute uncomplicated influenza treatment and post-exposure prophylaxis in patients aged five and older.

The U.S. Food and Drug Administration announced on 17 June 2026 that it approved the first generic of Xofluza, baloxavir marboxil tablets, ahead of the 2026-2027 flu season.
FDA says generic baloxavir may be used for acute uncomplicated influenza in patients aged five and older who have had symptoms for no more than 48 hours, and for post-exposure prophylaxis after contact with someone who has influenza.
The agency lists contraindications and warnings, including hypersensitivity reactions and treatment-emergent resistance concerns in children under five. Common side effects include diarrhea, bronchitis, nausea, sinusitis and headache.
