New technologies usually arrive disguised as tools. The printing press copies books. Electricity lights rooms. The internet sends messages. AI drafts text, writes code, classifies images and answers questions. The first description is practical because people understand a new thing through the old tasks it performs.

Tools become institutions

The mature question is not whether AI is revolutionary. It is which institutions will absorb the revolution without being hollowed out by it. Schools, courts, hospitals and newsrooms cannot simply add AI like a plug-in. They must decide which human practices are worth preserving even when a machine can imitate the output.

History does not repeat mechanically, but it teaches scale. The deepest transformations are not measured by the speed of adoption alone. They are measured by what becomes normal afterward.
