Pinterest has announced a planned 4 billion dollar cloud-services commitment with Amazon Web Services through 2031, describing it as the largest infrastructure commitment in the visual discovery platform's history.
AWS says Pinterest will use Trainium and Graviton to train and run AI models at scale. The workloads include visual search, recommendations and AI-assisted discovery for a service that reports more than 600 million monthly users.
The agreement extends a relationship between Pinterest and AWS dating back to 2010. AWS says the companies have already worked together on a large-scale data lake, while the new commitment focuses more directly on model training, inference and platform infrastructure.
For cloud providers, the deal illustrates the strategic importance of custom silicon. AI platforms with heavy recommendation and multimodal workloads need cost control as much as raw model capability, especially when inference happens continuously across consumer products.
